Billingham RUFC was formed in 1924 as the rugby section of Billingham Synthonia Recreation Club.
Certainly in the 1950's & 60's we were a big club within Durham County but sadly, with the decline of ICI in the 70's & 80's we became a one team club.
The late 80's brought the introduction of league rugby and although we found ourselves floundering in the lower echelons, thanks to the dedication of a small number of members, a junior section was created.
In the early 2000's we eventually moved to our current site on Greenwood Road and with the help of a National Lottery grant, we finally had our own clubhouse!
We now offer age grade rugby for boys from under 6 to under 18 and consistently put out 3 senior sides each weekend plus a Veterans (over 35) several times a year. We also provide age grade for girls at under 12's, 14's & 16's, in line with the current RFU guidelines and will hopefully be able to create an under 18’s this season.
We present some really exciting opportunities within the club which goes a long way towards rugby development from grassroots level to National Leagues and ultimately promotes the sport of rugby union within our local community and surrounding area.
We have recently extended the function room and made a few other small alterations with a view to make our off field as successful as our on field.
