Club President's Welcome
JOHN KER
CLUB PRESIDENT
It's my pleasure to welcome all today's visitors to Billingham Rugby Club.
Whether you are a player, a committee representative or a loyal fan we give you whole hearted greetings. We shall endeavour to treat you well both on and off the pitch, regardless of the final outcome of the game.
As we enter our 102nd season, after over twenty years at Greenwood Road plus eight years with the AGP we are going from strength to strength. Junior and mini numbers remain high with girls as well as boys making Sundays a constant whirl of activity.
Actually I am still recovering from the final game of last season when the bonus point gained secured our place in this league. For twenty minutes we played scintillating rugby and quite frankly we were unstoppable. Of course the reward is to do it all again for a third season; at least we know what to expect, playing at Level Four in a professional league.
Each year I show my appreciation and thanks to the strong leadership, both on the field and off it. We are very proud of all our many volunteers who help keep the club moving forward. That includes all the managers and coaches in the Youth Section who are all volunteers too.
It's difficult in a one-off piece to react to weekly events, however Chairman Mark Armstrong and DoR Peter Evans do change their contributions game by game, so a special thanks to both.
In conclusion, after two hard seasons we are still up for the fight. A third season at this level does not daunt us and we still hope to establish ourselves permanently in NATIONAL 2 NORTH.

CAPTAIN'S CORNER
LUKE WILSON
1ST XV & CLUB CAPTAIN
Sheffield at home this weekend.
Top of the league and setting the standard. It’s a real challenge, but it’s one we’re excited for and fully up for.
Last week was a blip. A tough one to take, no doubt, but that’s all it is. We’ve put it to bed quickly because the bigger picture shows we’re in good form. Recent results against Hull, Otley and Fylde have shown what we’re capable of, and the performance against second-place Macclesfield proved we can more than match the top sides in this league. When we’re on it, we’re a tough team to play against.
A massive congratulations to Peter Evans on reaching 400 first-team appearances for the club, a phenomenal achievement. To hit that milestone and join his brother in doing so makes it even more special. It speaks volumes about his commitment and the standards he’s set year after year. The club is lucky to have people like him.
This league is unforgiving, and every week throws up a different test. The challenge for us now is delivering for a full eighty minutes, staying connected, and turning strong performances into big results
Sheffield at home is a huge opportunity. Points are vital, especially against the team at the top, and with a well-earned week off after this one, there’s no holding back. We need to empty the tank.
This game is about standards, actions, and sticking together. Working hard for each other. Trusting what we do. Playing with pride in the badge.
Get down, get loud, and get behind us.
Let’s make this one count.

TEAM NOTICES
Pete Evans – 400 Games in Green & White
Today we celebrate an incredible milestone as Pete Evans makes his 400th 1st XV appearance for Billingham Rugby Club.
A leader, a competitor and now our Director of Rugby Performance, Pete has given years of commitment, passion and professionalism to this club. From match days in the engine room to shaping the standards of the squad today, his influence runs right through Billingham Rugby.
Four hundred games. Countless tackles, carries and memories. One club.
Congratulations, Pete — and thank you for everything you continue to give.
Luke Wilson Marks 250 Games for the 1st XV
Luke Wilson makes his 250th first-team appearance today — a true leader and a club legend.
From minis to juniors to senior rugby, he’s given everything through thick and thin, always driving us forward and leading by example.
DoR Peter Evans “Luke is already a Billingham legend. Reaching 250 first-team appearances is an incredible achievement, and to do that while consistently being one of the best players on the pitch in most, if not all of those games says everything about the player he is.
Playing 12 for Billingham is a tough job because we ask so much from that role, but Luke has made it his own and now leads by example as captain of the side.
We’ve got a mountain to climb on his big milestone day, but I’m sure we’ll all give everything to get the result.
Congratulations on an incredible milestone, Luke. Here’s to many more.
50 Up for Joe in the 1st XV
The first of three big milestones today when Joe Scarborough steps onto the field, he’ll earn his 50th first-team cap — an incredible achievement at such a young age.
DoR Peter Evans “Scabs (or Jospeh) has improved so much in his time with the club. He has always had gas to burn but the layers he has added over the last 12/18 months is brilliant. Incredibly strong in the contact and forever improving in D, Scabs is turning into the star we knew he would be. 50 down and a lot more to go. Congratulations ”
What a moment.
What a player.
A big weekend ahead for the senior squad.
The Lions make the short trip up the coast to Hartlepool where they face West in what promises to be a tough encounter.
It’s a much-needed fixture for the group — an opportunity to put recent lessons into practice, build some momentum and deliver a performance that reflects the hard work being put in on the training field. Local fixtures always bring an extra edge, and the lads will be keen to rise to the challenge.
Meanwhile, the 3TM head to DMP for County Cup action. Cup rugby always carries its own intensity, and the squad will be looking to embrace the occasion. Knockout rugby demands accuracy, composure and togetherness — and it’s another chance for players to step up, represent the club with pride and push for silverware.
Plenty of rugby. Plenty to play for.
We go again.

Colts Set for Penrith Test on the Road
The Billingham Colts are back in action tomorrow as they make the trip to Penrith for a 13:30 kick-off.
Away fixtures demand character, and this group has shown time and again that they’re prepared to dig deep for each other. All the best to the squad and coaches as they look to bring a result back home.
Safe travels to everyone making the journey — your support makes the difference.
Injured Players Benevolent Fund
Striving to be the Best Professional Amateur Club.
Billingham Rugby Club Launches Injured Players Benevolent Fund
Billingham Rugby Club Injured Players Benevolent Fund
This new initiative is designed to support players who are injured, providing assistance to those who need it most.
How will the fund build?
From March 22, 2025, the club introduced a change to its plastic glasses refund policy. Instead of offering refunds, £1 from the cost of the first glass will be donated to the Injured Players Benevolent Fund. Refills will remain free (drink charge still applicable), and customers can still return their cups as usual. This is just the first of several initiatives aimed at raising funds for the cause.
The club is excited to launch this initiative and thanks you for your continued support in helping us assist injured players.
