Club President's Welcome
JOHN KER
CLUB PRESIDENT
It's my pleasure to welcome all today's visitors to Billingham Rugby Club.
Whether you are a player, a committee representative or a loyal fan we give you whole hearted greetings.
We are well past our centenary now as we enter our fourth season in National 2 North so we are all looking forward to another exciting, yet challenging year as we expect another season of demanding rugby for all our teams.
Billingham RUFC is more than just a rugby club; it's a community built on passion, dedication and family spirit. Whether you're here to play, volunteer or cheer from the sidelines you are part of something special. As a proud and traditional club we hold ourselves to the highest standards both on and off the pitch. Respecting referees, supporting teammates and playing with integrity remain at the heart of who we are.
It's worth noting that to continue on our upward path of progression it would be impossible without the support and generosity of our many supporters and sponsors, to whom we are eternally grateful. On a personal level, I need to thank sincerely all our many volunteers who contribute to the day to day running of the club, both on and off the field. That includes the managers and coaches of all our junior teams, both boys and girls plus of course our embryonic ladies team.
It's impossible in a one off, annual piece to react to weekly events, however Chairman Mark Armstrong and DOR Peter Evans do change their contributions game by game so a special thanks to them.
Finally, I hope you enjoy today's match and your experience here at Greenwood Road and I look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

PETER EVANS
DIRECTOR OF RUGBY PERFORMANCE
Welcome to everyone joining us today for what is always a tough game with Otley.
Last week wasn’t at the standard we expect in particular a 2nd half we need to learn from. The bounce of the ball didn’t go our way but one thing we won’t stand for is a lack of effort or folding under pressure. We need a reaction. The lads had a brilliant week training where spirits were high, and everyone is aligned on how to approach this game.
It's still early in the season, but unfortunately we haven't achieved the results we wanted or perhaps deserved. That makes this weekend a huge game and one that both sides will see as a must-win. Otley had a similar result last week and they will want to come back firing.
Our 2nd and 3rd team had a successful start to their life in the league structure. It is a bit of challenge this week with lots of changes but still proud to keep churning out 3 quality squads week on week.
Expectations are high this week, and hopefully we can deliver a performance and result that everyone can be proud of.

A big response starts at home
This weekend we welcome Otley to Billingham, and after a difficult afternoon away at Chester last weekend, we’re looking forward to getting back out on our home pitch.
Chester was a tough one for us. We know we didn’t perform to the level we expect of ourselves, and that’s something we’ve spoken about as a group. The only way to move forward is to learn from it, raise our standards and make sure we’re better this weekend.
The response from the lads in training this week has been excellent. There’s been plenty of energy, intensity and competition in the sessions, and you can feel the group is keen to get back out there and show a reaction.
We know Otley will come here ready for a battle, so we’ll need to be switched on from the first whistle and make sure we play the game on our terms. It’s another opportunity for us to show the progress we’re making as a young squad and, more importantly, to put the work from this week into practice.
There’s something different about playing at home. Having our supporters behind us, hearing the noise from the sidelines and having the club around us gives the lads an extra lift. We want to make the most of that this Saturday.
To everyone who continues to support us, thank you. We know the results won’t always go our way, but the backing from the stands never goes unnoticed. Get behind the lads, make plenty of noise and hopefully we can give you a performance to be proud of.
We’ve put the work in this week. Now it’s time to show it on the pitch.

Guard of Honour – Billingham U14s
We are delighted to welcome our U14s as the guard of honour for today’s game against Otley RUFC.
Our U14s will take their place pitchside to welcome the players onto the field, helping to set the atmosphere for another afternoon of rugby at Billingham.
It’s a proud moment to see our younger players involved in the senior match day, bringing different parts of the club together and giving them the chance to play their part in the occasion.
We would also like to thank the coaches, volunteers, parents and carers who support the team throughout the season. Their time and encouragement make a real difference, helping our young players develop their skills, build friendships and enjoy their rugby.
We hope the U14s have a brilliant afternoon, enjoy being part of the match day and lend their voices to the support for Billingham against Otley.
Please give our U14s a warm welcome and a big round of applause as they form today’s guard of honour.
FORTHCOMING GAMES, EVENTS & NOTICES
Lions ready for Redcar challenge
Billingham Lions travel to Redcar this weekend for only their second-ever league appearance, with kick-off at 3pm.
An established first team, Redcar will provide a tough, physical test and another opportunity for the Lions to show what they can do. There’s history between the clubs too, with Billingham’s First XV having faced Redcar many moons ago.
There are changes to the Lions squad this week, but plenty of talent remains on show as they continue this new chapter. A challenging afternoon awaits, and any travelling support will give the lads a welcome lift.
3TM back on home turf
Billingham 3TM return to league action at Greenwood Road this weekend, welcoming Guisborough 2s for a 2.15pm kick-off.
Another physical encounter is expected as 3TM take on the visitors in front of a home crowd. There are changes to the squad this week, but there’s plenty of talent on show and every reason to look forward to a competitive contest.
If you’re heading to the club, get down early, take your place on the sidelines and give the lads your backing. Your support can make a real difference as 3TM take on their next league challenge.
Girls ready for another big weekend
Billingham’s girls return to action this weekend, with the U16s, U14s and U12s all looking to build on their recent performances and continue their development.
The U16s welcome Hartlepool to Greenwood Road on Sunday 4th October, with kick-off at 1pm. It’s another opportunity to put in a strong performance on home soil and show the progress they’re making together.
Meanwhile, the U14s and U12s head to Darlington, looking to build on their impressive performances and keep that momentum going. Both sides will have the chance to put their training into practice and gain valuable match experience.
The continued growth of girls’ rugby at Billingham is something the whole club can be proud of. Every session and every game helps our young players develop their skills, confidence and enjoyment of the sport.
Good luck to all three sides this weekend. Whether you’re at Greenwood Road or travelling to Darlington, get behind the girls and give them your support.
