It's my pleasure to welcome all today's visitors to Billingham Rugby Club.
Whether you are a player, a committee representative or a loyal fan we give you whole hearted greetings.
We are well past our centenary now as we enter our fourth season in National 2 North so we are all looking forward to another exciting, yet challenging year as we expect another season of demanding rugby for all our teams.
Billingham RUFC is more than just a rugby club; it's a community built on passion, dedication and family spirit. Whether you're here to play, volunteer or cheer from the sidelines you are part of something special. As a proud and traditional club we hold ourselves to the highest standards both on and off the pitch. Respecting referees, supporting teammates and playing with integrity remain at the heart of who we are.
It's worth noting that to continue on our upward path of progression it would be impossible without the support and generosity of our many supporters and sponsors, to whom we are eternally grateful. On a personal level, I need to thank sincerely all our many volunteers who contribute to the day to day running of the club, both on and off the field. That includes the managers and coaches of all our junior teams, both boys and girls plus of course our embryonic ladies team.
It's impossible in a one off, annual piece to react to weekly events, however Chairman Mark Armstrong and DOR Peter Evans do change their contributions game by game so a special thanks to them.

Welcome to the New Season
A new season is upon us, bringing with it the usual mix of highs, lows, and excitement.
Supporting Billingham over the last three seasons has certainly been a rollercoaster ride, and I have no doubt this campaign will be no different. The league is stronger than ever, with the relegated and promoted teams all being strong, traditional rugby clubs that will provide tough competition throughout the season.
We've seen a fair amount of change over the summer, with five new signings already joining the club and another three players set to come through our relationship with Newcastle Red Bulls. Our new coaching team has been working tirelessly with the senior squad, and the feedback from the players has been extremely positive. I'm confident their efforts will help drive the club forward and deliver success both on and off the field.
The RFU's decision to delay the start of the regional leagues has impacted our Lions and 3TM sides. However, we'll see them in friendly action next week, and with player numbers looking very healthy, we're hopeful of a successful season across all teams at the club.
We begin the league campaign with one of the toughest tests possible. Fylde have been one of the top sides in the division for many years and, much like ourselves, they play an expansive brand of rugby that is always entertaining for the neutral and often produces a fantastic contest. We've enjoyed some success in recent home fixtures against them, but these games are always incredibly tight.
We're not quite at full strength yet, with a few important players still to return, but once everyone is available, I genuinely believe we'll surprise a few teams this season. Some of our younger players have gained another year of experience, while the next generation stepping up through the ranks are showing enormous potential.
A huge thank you goes to our principal sponsors, Omnia, who are also our matchday sponsors today. As a local business, their support is greatly appreciated, and we are delighted to have them playing such an important role in our journey.
So, strap yourselves in. Another season of thrills, drama, and unforgettable moments has arrived.

New Faces, Fresh Ambition
As we head into our first game of the season at home against Fylde, there’s a real sense of excitement around the club and the squad.
A lot has changed over the summer, with a number of new faces coming through the door, and it’s been great to see how quickly everyone has settled in. The additions have brought a real energy to the group and, alongside the lads who have been here already, we’ve built a strong, young squad that’s hungry to improve and ready for the challenge ahead.
This is a really exciting time for Billingham. We’re heading into our fourth season in National 2, and there’s a real belief within the group about what we can achieve. Last season was a fantastic one for the club, setting new records for wins, points and our highest-ever league finish, but that’s now behind us. This season is a fresh start, and we’re determined to build on what we achieved rather than simply look back on it.
Fylde will provide a tough test first up, but that’s exactly what you want from the opening game. There’s nothing better than getting the season underway at home, in front of our own supporters, and hopefully putting on a performance that gives everyone plenty to get behind.
To everyone who has supported us, thank you. The backing we had last season, both at home and away, made a huge difference and created an atmosphere that the players genuinely appreciate. As we kick off another season, we need that support to continue.
Keep the numbers high, the support strong and, most importantly, keep the noise loud on the sidelines. We’ll do everything we can on the pitch to give you something to shout about.
It’s a new season, a new squad and another opportunity to represent the club we’re all proud of.
Let’s get behind the lads, start the season strongly and make home a difficult place for anyone to come and play.

Guard of Honour – Billingham U15s (Hawks)
Today, we are delighted to welcome Billingham U15s, the Hawks, who will proudly form our guard of honour as the teams take to the field.
The Hawks represent an important stage in the club’s junior pathway, where young players continue to develop their skills, confidence and understanding of the game. Just as importantly, they learn the values that make rugby special: teamwork, respect, commitment and supporting one another.
Opportunities such as today allow our junior players to feel part of the wider Billingham rugby family and to see where their continued hard work and dedication could take them. We hope they enjoy being at the heart of the matchday atmosphere and take plenty of inspiration from the occasion.
A huge thank you must also go to the coaches, volunteers, parents and families who give their time and encouragement throughout the season. Their support makes junior rugby possible and helps the players enjoy, develop and build lasting friendships through the game.
Please join us in giving the Billingham U15 Hawks a warm welcome—and a big round of applause—as they form today’s guard of honour.
