Club President's Welcome
JOHN KER
CLUB PRESIDENT
It's my pleasure to welcome all today's visitors to Billingham Rugby Club.
Whether you are a player, a committee representative or a loyal fan we give you whole hearted greetings. We shall endeavour to treat you well both on and off the pitch, regardless of the final outcome of the game.
As we enter our 102nd season, after over twenty years at Greenwood Road plus eight years with the AGP we are going from strength to strength. Junior and mini numbers remain high with girls as well as boys making Sundays a constant whirl of activity.
Actually I am still recovering from the final game of last season when the bonus point gained secured our place in this league. For twenty minutes we played scintillating rugby and quite frankly we were unstoppable. Of course the reward is to do it all again for a third season; at least we know what to expect, playing at Level Four in a professional league.
Each year I show my appreciation and thanks to the strong leadership, both on the field and off it. We are very proud of all our many volunteers who help keep the club moving forward. That includes all the managers and coaches in the Youth Section who are all volunteers too.
It's difficult in a one-off piece to react to weekly events, however Chairman Mark Armstrong and DoR Peter Evans do change their contributions game by game, so a special thanks to both.
In conclusion, after two hard seasons we are still up for the fight. A third season at this level does not daunt us and we still hope to establish ourselves permanently in NATIONAL 2 NORTH.

DIRECTOR OF RUGBY PERFORMANCE
Another big home game to start the next block of fixtures.
Originally a catch up week both teams are bound to have changes, but we come into the fixture having played very well for the last 4 and getting results in the last 2. It is an important fixture and opportunity to put more points on the board in a very congested mid/bottom end of the table.
Last time out wasn’t a classic but speaks volumes to how far we have come as a group and what we have worked on to get a result at Otley. We looked after the ball and each other to get the win and will need the same this week.
Fylde will come ready to play. They have a very structured, but loose, system where they can play and score from anywhere. It is normally a cracking game with both teams taking risks and playing with the ball in hand. I am sure Fylde will be targeting the game and looking to pick up points after 3 close games.
It is also a special day for Joe Evans, 400 1st team appearances - simply unbelievable and such a rare achievement. Thankfully, I’ve been alongside my brother for a vast amount of those games and the praise couldn’t be more deserving for a player who has given so much to the club over the last 33 or so years. Selfless, hard as nails and a brilliant player a small snippet of what he’s about. There will be plenty on socials and plenty of chat in the club, but I know all he will want is a big win for our club.

CAPTAIN'S CORNER
LUKE WILSON
1ST XV & CLUB CAPTAIN
We come into this weekend off the back of two big wins against Hull and Otley, and the group is in a good place.
Confidence is building and standards are being driven week on week. A massive congratulations as well to Joe Evans on reaching 400 first-team appearances for the club an incredible achievement and a testament to his commitment.
The last few weeks have shown both how good we can be and how ruthless this league is. The intensity and effort have been there, but we know we haven’t always finished the job. That’s the challenge now delivering for the full eighty minutes and staying connected right to the final whistle.
Fylde at home is a huge opportunity. It’s great to be back in front of our own supporters, and the energy this place brings makes a real difference. When it’s loud and buzzing, it gives us that extra edge when it matters most.
This weekend is about standards and actions working hard for each other, trusting what we do, and playing with pride in the badge.
Get down, get loud, and get behind us. Let’s make this one count.

Guard of Honour – Billingham Dragons U11s
Today we are delighted to welcome our Billingham Dragons U11s as Guard of Honour for this afternoon’s fixture. As one of the club’s developing age groups, the Dragons represent both the present and the future of Billingham Rugby.
Week in, week out, these young players show outstanding enthusiasm, commitment and teamwork, continuing to build their skills while learning the core values of the game in a fun, supportive environment. Their progress, attitude and passion for rugby are a credit to the coaches, parents and the club as a whole.
Being part of today’s matchday experience is a special moment for them. Please join us in giving the Billingham Dragons U11s a huge welcome as they lead the teams onto the pitch and proudly represent the next generation of Billingham Rugby.

400. ONE CLUB. ONE LEGEND.
This weekend marks a historic moment for Billingham Rugby Club as Joe Evans becomes the first player in our history to reach 400 First XV appearances.
From making his debut at just 17 years old, Joe has lived and breathed the club ever since. One of only two players to achieve four promotions, his journey mirrors the rise of the club itself.
A wiry fly-half with a fearless edge, Joe grew into a leader — captaining the side and leading not with noise, but with actions. Renowned for his physicality, commitment, and consistency, he set standards simply by how he played the game.
- A teammate to trust.
- A role model to follow.
- A friend to many.
With 595 points to his name, Joe could easily be remembered for the numbers — but those who know him best know this: he was always a selfless player, putting the team and his teammates first, every single time.
A true one-club man, a rare talent, and someone who embodies everything this club stands for. And perhaps most special of all, he’s shared the pitch with his three brothers — a story few ever get to tell.
Joe Evans isn’t just part of our history.
He is Billingham Rugby Club.

Billingham Rugby Club Launches Injured Players Benevolent Fund
Billingham Rugby Club Injured Players Benevolent Fund
This new initiative is designed to support players who are injured, providing assistance to those who need it most.
How will the fund build?
From March 22, 2025, the club introduced a change to its plastic glasses refund policy. Instead of offering refunds, £1 from the cost of the first glass will be donated to the Injured Players Benevolent Fund. Refills will remain free (drink charge still applicable), and customers can still return their cups as usual. This is just the first of several initiatives aimed at raising funds for the cause.
The club is excited to launch this initiative and thanks you for your continued support in helping us assist injured players.
